What to do on a (rare) rainy day in Kona, Hawaii

Sorry about the weather. Kailua-Kona, and especially our house, are generally on the dry side. But occasionally Mother Nature gives our water bill a break and sends some natrual irrigation. If it's winter, the good news is you may get to see Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea with snow caps! It’s likely a blizzard up there.

Meanwhile, rainy day activities (mostly indoor) here:

Kona Historical Society. Lots of interesting info on the heritage of here. And if the rain lets up, you can go tour Greenwell Coffee Farm right next door!

Hulihe’e Palace, downtown Kailua-Kona.

• Free Hawaiian heritage displays inside the King Kamehameah Courtyard Marriott Hotel in downtown Kailua-Kona.

• See a movie at Regal Cinemas--perhaps it's not what you planned to do on vacation, but we have often found ourselves in movie theaters around the world when the weather has turned bad, and have seen some wonderful films that we may not have given time to in our "normal" workaday lives. NOTE: Regal has two locations in Kona--one at Makalapua (near Macy's) and one at Keauhou Shopping Center.

• Snorkel—the fish don’t mind the rain
